Jacquelene Smith

Senior Business Banker, Capital One

1. How long have you worked in the Small Business Banking space?

I've worked in Business Banking since June 2000 when I was hired as an administrative assistant.

2. Why small business banking?

Before starting my banking career, I had been introduced to the mortgage business and felt it was a similar industry.

3. What are you looking forward to in the small business banking space this year?

I'm most excited to witness the evolution of digital banking, and incorporate those changes into everyday business operations.

4. Could you share a success story from your time as a small business banker?

The most memorable moments of my time as a business banker were the times we were able to go out into our communities.  Early in my career, I was asked to speak with a group of young girls at a high school for troubled youth.  That day, I spent a few hours speaking to the class about career options, life in general, and my own upbringing and path that led me to become a banker.

Several months later, I received a letter at the branch from one of the students in the class. She wanted to personally thank me for speaking that day and let me know how much it helped her through personal battles she was facing at that time.  It made me realize that I'm not just a business banker; we serve our communities for a multitude of purposes and I am so grateful to be in a position to make a difference.
